I recently stumble on Decor8 on this great company called Squint. Their upholstery are simply amazing, true work of arts. Love their patchwork of fabric and colors. A true inspiration!

I have a antique Louis XV chaise that needs a little bit of love. The fabric has beens a little bit to much loved by my 2 cats and their claws. I think the patchwork look of Squint could be a great look for my chaise. What do you think?

Well today is my due date and so far no baby on the way.

We have been working hard on our nursery and it's getting close to completion.

I can't wait to share it with you. Lots of DIY in this room with our very own gulliver crib hack.

I'll post photos as soon as it is done.

For now, I wanted to share with you the mood board of the room. Lots of green, lots of white, lots of silver. There are still some things to figure out, like big sheepskin rug or grey cowhide rug? Tell me what you think?

Spring is fast approaching and this room feels fresh and colorful like the upcoming season.

I really like the fact that everything is white, floors, walls and furniture but that it still feels colorful with all the great fabrics. I'm a bit afraid of color myself in my decor so this is a great way to add color without being stuck with forever. I particularly like the window treatment and I think I will used these blind in the nursery. What do you think?

My house is old (85 years old to be exact) and the windows were changed in the 70's. They need to be changed again because they are ugly, rusty and falling apart. So I have been looking at window options. I love the windows in this picture found on Desire to Inspire. They are beautiful ! Wish I could put windows like this in my house.

Frequent readers of this love already know this but I love wallpapers. But with so many choices and the high price of some of wallpapers, wallpapers can be a bit scary. This image by Shanandchi give us a great solution: Wallpaper frames!! Why do we put wallpapers in frames and hang them on our walls. We can go as big as we want and change often the wallpaper when we are tired of the old one. This could be cheaply and easily and give a great look to your interior and it could also be done with fabric. Thanks Shanandchi for the great idea!

The kitchen renovations are advancing really well. And we are now trying to find the perfect backsplash for it. Here are our options up to now.

1- marble mix long tiles

We really like this one. Love the mix of grays and the strong statement it makes

2- Mix of lights grays glass tiles

I bit more soft and more reflective since it is glass tile

3- Dark gray glass tiles

4- stainless steel tiles

the mock up doesn't do justice to the tile

It's a square stainless steel tile. I personally think that it's a bit too much stainless for our kitchen with the stainless appliance and the stainless counter tops

and it is really expensive

5- White marble tile

I bit to traditional for my taste

Here you can see all the tiles. The ipod is to give an idea of the size of each tile

My boyfriend and I really like option 1. But maybe it's too dark, or too much of a statement. I also really like the option 2 and the option 3. Maybe I would take option 3 in a lighter gray to match the wall color. Arrg this is hard!!! What do you think? Help me please make the right choice.

My house: Kitchen update part 1

When we first bought the house, the kitchen was a bit small and very ugly. The walls were canary yellow and the cabinet were made out of faux wood panels. But the possibilities were there. The kitchen was next to a big spare room that we didn't need and that could be transform into dinning room. By removing the wall between the kitchen and the dinning room, we could have a big open kitchen.

Here is a little update of kitchen renovation... what an adventure it was and still is... since we haven't finish the renovations yet.

The Before

Don't you just love the floor and the nice backsplash ? Well we didn't and the first thing we did was destroy everything

The Demolition

Bye Bye ugly kitchen!

The Renovations

The wall between the kitchen and the dinning room was removed, the walls were painted a light gray and the ceramic tiles were installed. We choice gray tiles that have a bit of rust spots and cracks. They look a bit like cement. We love the industrial and worn look they had.

Then we started placing our Ikea cabinets. We went with the glossy white cabinets ( Akurum/ Abstract). Love the very modern clean look. And our stainless steel appliances were put into place.

Next we installed all the hardware. We went with ( Vinna) from Ikea. In addition the stainless steel counter tops were installed.

Also with the demolition of the wall, we had a lot free space and we decided to construct a kitchen island. This is the very time we have a kitchen island and we love it! It gave us so much more counter space. And it's perfect to eat breakfast in the morning.
We also painted one wall with chalkboard paint. Perfect to write the grocery list and to add a bit of fun to our kitchen.

This is pretty it for the kitchen reno update. We still have a lot to do. Lots of little details here and there, installing the backsplash, installing the kitchen hood but we are really happy about the results. So keep check out the blog to see how it all turns out

Fell in love with a piece of fabric

I recently went to Ikea and fell in love with a piece of fabric. The new Annamoa collection is just the cutest thing. I especially love the little fox one and the various squares one. I think the fox is going to be my main inspiration for the nursery. And the other one is going into my art studio.
After all at 7.99$ per meter is can be a great impact for a very low price.

As for me, last year was a very busy year with our first house, our big dreams of renovation and finally.. drum roll please.... our first baby on the way!! Yes, it's true. In the middle of May, we will become 2 cats + a house and a baby.

Shopping guide: looking for bar stools

This weekend, we worked a lot on our kitchen renovations and we built our big kitchen island.
It's great! Huge counter space to work and lots of storage. I feel like a tv cook when I'm woring on it. But a few thing are still missing: our light fixtures and our bar stools. I have been looing around for some good options for the barstools and here are my latest finds.

So I am in the process of transforming my dinning room. Well transforming.... let me explain. It used to be our "Put everything we don't know where to put" room which was filled mostly with the 100 ikea cabinets boxes. Now that the kitchen is built and the boxes are gone, we have a big empty room with my old dinning table ( which looks really small in the room) and my serie seven chair ( like the one on the photo)
When I saw this photo with the same chair I have, It really inspired me....I really love the light fixture. It could really look good in my room.

Do you remember my ugly 2 room bathroom. Here are the before photos.
We have worked a lot and it's finally getting there. Here is small update on the renovations.
Sorry for the bad photos.. but it think the changes are still very noticeable.
So we destroy the wall between the tub and the toilet and destroyed a small closet on the side and move everything and changed everything. What do you think?
I love it! Here are all the details and cost.
The shower:
Love my shower. It's big and warm and perfect. So perfect in fact that I have the hardest time getting out of it to go to work in the morning. We bought the base and glass panels at the hardware store for around 1000$. It was very hard to bring it home. Those glass doors weighted a ton. And we broke one glass panel on our first trip. The tiles were bought at a ceramic stores and they are italian I think. They were 9$ the square feet. The shower head was bought on ebay for 199$. It's half plastic, half metals. And it comes with 4 water jets and a large rain forest shower head. It was very easy to install.
The vanity:
The vanity is a ikea hack. We bought the new ikea's vanity and we added a granit countertop and 2 ceramic sinks to it. It looks amazing. We had shopped around for a vanity but they were all so expensive ( more than a 1000$ and we still had to buy the sinks and faucets) that we decided to customize the ikea one to our need. It wasn't cheap ( ikea vanity 299$, sinks 100$ each, faucet 40$ each, granit around 300$)
The bath tub:
We shopped a lot for this one. And we finally found this squared bathtub at a small shop for 430$. The ceramics were bought were 7$ the square feet.

That's about it
IT was really more expensive than I taught.
Mostly because we had to redo a lot of the pluming, but the result are just perfect.

I really love option no3 but I'm afraid that the space between the shower and the toilet bowl is too small. I don't want to hit my head on the shower glass wall every time I stand up.
So we are looking into variations

final bathroom inspiration

So my interior designer and I finally decided on the inspiration look.

Here it is. I just love the metalic tiles! We are doing 2 squares sinks instead of one with 2 faucets.

By the way, for montrealers out there, I bought 2 modern looking faucets at home depot. They were 50% off. They cost only $40 ( in the last call sale section). It's quite a bargain!

Now I just need to find the right tub! any suggestions on where to shop for that kind of tub near montreal.

bye bye old wallpaper

When we got the house, the wallpaper in the living room was teared in many places. So we decided to remove it. I usually love wallpaper but this one was not very nice.

We remove the wallpaer with a wallpaper remover ( it's a small bottle with a special soap in it) and spatulas and lots of warm water. It took some time and we will need to sand the walls to finish the job, but the wallpaper is gone. Now I just have to decide what I'm going to do with this place.

bye bye faux wood panels

Friday, we removed the faux wood panels from the soon to be office room.

I know these wood panels were really popular in the 70's but in my opinion, they were just too ugly to stay. They were very easy to remove. We just took a crowbar and riped all the nails. Luckyly the walls under are not to damaged. Today we are doing all the repairs... and hopefully we can paint soon.

ps. on the first photo you can see all the chuck the previous home owner had. He left a lot of junk in the house and we are still getting rid of some stuff.

Another gorgeous kitchen found in an magazine.
Love the back splash and the horizontal lines created by the handles. I also like the how the kitchen hood was integrated. The kitchen island is very interesting also. Love the shape and the little space to put the cookbooks. And finally, love the wood floors. Great inspiration!

Found this great simple kitchen in Decormag, a french magazine. I just love everything, the white counter top, the white cabinets, the stainless steel chicken hood, the horizontal handles... beautifull!!
